Not my Friends

We have ants. It appears that these tiny sugar monsters are pretty common around here, but
I am quite sick of them. Luckily, our landlady is awesome and sent the exterminator over the day after I called her (to say that his exterminating from a week before had only made things worse). They seem to be migrating from room to room, through the outside windows.

If I can get my hands on some Borax, I'm going to mix up some of this "Uncle Albert's Ant Bait" myself. The post-it notes were total genius on the exterminator's part. I've been shuffling them around the house to put in the paths of the little suckers, and it seems to be working.

the persistence of ants is testament to their success as a species. eradicating them is hard, because you can destroy the single unit, while the colony is unharmed. clean with vinegar to destroy their scent trails, that will help.

Thanks, Kristen! I've been cleaning constantly with this herbal sage hippie stuff from Trader Joe's, which seems to work for a few days.

They sure are resilient creatures! I have a lot of respect for them as a species, even though they are kinda like lemmings.

UPDATE: Terro liquid seems to be working really well! There are only a few straggling ants now (the colony may never die completely), and I got them away from the brewing mead (see http://breadandbadger.blogspot.com/2008/08/mead-making.html).
